First Day on road north. Hot Hot Hot.

After two days of sweaty packing up we are finally on the road. Poor Lynda has a bad back again for the trip but is maintaining that "Stiff upper lip" like a Brit does. We hope as the days go by she feels better. I certainly owe her doing some things she would normally do from my past illnesses and the way she took over for me.

Leaving was some what an unsettling event this year as we had a real good winter and enjoyed it. The folks at the Elks were great, no hassles, and we like being with the many friends we have made there and with the campers that come year after year. It got to be more like our home than ever before. I worked full time at Florida Bay Outfitters and we had a really great crew. Some of the gang were retreads from past years like me but some where new. I will be going back to help Frank the owner out with the many trips he has in June. I will fly back and stay with Frank and his wife Monica at their house. Frank is taking care of me with the flight, part of the rental car fee and a good salary. It will be rather strange coming back down, and a first, but with the bucks I make I can take off July and Aug then just doing our photos and maybe some guiding.

Anyway right now we are parked in this twilight zone type campground in Pompano Beach Fl. Just north of Ft. Lauderdale. We had a real hot ride here as at time the outside thermometer read 100 deg. F. Phew! The poor AC on the bus couldn't possibly cool the whole coach so it was warm. A lot of people we know run their generator and roof AC's. We didn't want to use up more fuel than we had to as it has gone up so just sweated it out. Right now we have both units on and it's nice and cool. Lynda is putting together some grub for our dinner. We are in this strange place as it is part of our Passport America Club and only costs $18 with full hook ups. Plus is was a little over a hundred miles to get here and we didn't leave till 2pm, late. The campground is more like a single wide trailer park. Full of closed up units that will sit till their snow bird owners head back down in the fall. Interstate 95 is a stones throw away and tomorrow we most likely will end up by Daytona Beach at another Passport America spot that has a large population of Eagles in the trees next to the property. Plus an "Olive Garden Italian Restaurant" down the road which we both love.

I'm going out now to take some photos of this "Truman Show" rv park.

  1. Hey guys, good stuff! Lynda, sorry to hear you're still suffering with back pain. I hope it eases up soon.
